Tom Killion, "East Pinnacles Creek", 1998. Linoleum block print, 12" x 16". Framed close (hidden mat under widened rabbet) in 3" carved slope profile (No. 2 CV Panel 1 - 3") in cherry stained black. For many years we've enjoyed framing the work of this exceptional artist, and have used this approach a few times (see frame detail at bottom). Besides enhancing the perspective in the piece, the clean slope of the frame carries you into, and sets the mood for, the serene and majestic scene. The single recessed narrow carved panel suggested itself in response to the textures of rock and water, as well as the block cutting technique itself, and as a complementary relief from the wide smooth frame surface.
