1927. Lithograph, 22″ x 14″. Framed in No. 328 – 3” in quartersawn white oak (Chestnut stain) with gilt slip.
A very lovely piece by one of our greatest illustrators. The combination of craggy, rough mountains and fine rendering and soft light suggested the coarse grain of quartersawn oak in a profile with a fine bead and soft scoop, finished off with a beveled back edge echoing the mountain peaks. The dark red-brown stain captures the feel of dark wood catching the pink-tinted light of dusk. The gilt slip sustains into the frame the picture’s dramatic highlights of sunshine.
