Woodblock print, circa 1847-1850. Oban size (c. 14″ x 9″). Framed in 3/4″ Kobe corner frame with proud splines, in walnut (Medieval stain).
The frame’s decorative corners draw on a traditional Japanese frame corner design called a Kobe corner. I chose it for this print as it suggests by flowers, which frame the figure. It also connects the flower pattern and the drape of the figure’s kimono—a connection surely not lost on the artist celebrating the woman’s beauty.
